HISTORY of the 3rd COAST ALUMNI KICKBALL LEAGUE

The idea of bringing back Kickball for fun was conceived by Kendra “KJ” Jones (Jack Yates) in 2008. On Sunday July 13, 2008 with the assistance of fellow Jack Yates Alum “OUR” game of kickball was originally played at Law Park I but was shortly moved and nourished at Yellowstone Park.

The following summer of 2009 Jack Yates began kicking balls and running fast again and they were quickly joined by other schools who wanted to compete and have a good time. The term “Fun Day at the Park” was taken to a new level. Madison, Nawfside, Westbury and Worthing all joined in and Our League was officially born. With this growth we needed to quickly assemble leadership to gain and maintain structure and organization. Emily Mattox (Jack Yates) was appointed President and Kendra “KJ” Jones served as Vice President.

Before long, there was more growth with the addition of three more teams . We added,Booker T Washington, Jones and Willowridge. The addition brought more people, more fun and more competition. Eight teams were now ready to display their talents on the field, it was clear we had out grown Yellowstone Park. We packed up our bases and our balls and moved to our current home of Law Park II. Once at Law Park II, our family continued to grow with addition of Sterling, Lamar and Milby.

In 2010, we took things to another level and added playoff games. Playoffs were intense and they led to our first official championship game. After all other teams battled to make it to “The Ship”, Jones and Milby were the last two teams standing and would play for the title and a year’s worth of bragging rights.

After food, family and fun at the end of season picnic, it was time for the Championship Game. Everyone gathered around to watch Jones and Milby go head to head for win. Jones came out on top and was crowned The Champions of H.A.H.S.A.K.K. 2010 kickball season!!

In 2011, Galveston Ball  was welcomed into our family and Westbury returned to the league. With twelve teams playing every Sunday and everyone wanting to be crowned CHAMPIONS, every game took on new meaning. Once play-offs started, everyone played hard, or went home. After very intense games, the two teams that would advance to the championship game were the Nawfsiders and Galveston Ball.

With all eyes on the field, the Nawfside and Galveston Ball met on the diamond to battle it out in the 2011 H.A.H.S.A.K.K. Championship game. It was Galveston who came out on top and was crowned the 2011 Champs!!

In the 2012 Kickball Season, we welcomed two more teams, Bellaire and Eisenhower . In the 2014 season, the La Marque kickball team made its debut followed by Aldine in 2015.
